Some of the most useful records for genealogists are kept at the state level. State departments of health oversee birth, marriage and death records, and state archives and historical societies have taken the lead in preserving newspapers, county records, state censuses and more.

This is a matrix of the Censuses of the individual States.  Most states which took censuses usually did so every ten years, on the five year mark (1855, 1865, etc.), to complement the US Federal census, and these records are most often found at the state archives or state libraries.  Many of these state census records are available on Ancestry.com and/or microfilm through a local Family History Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

WWI Draft Registration Cards - Blank PDF Forms (click on First, Second and/or Third) The World War I draft consisted of three separate registrations.  Since most of the registrations you will find on Ancestry.com are of such poor quality, it is helpful to have a blank which is readable.

  • Second Registration. The registration on 5 June 1918 was for men who had turned twenty-one years of age since the previous registration—men born between 6 June 1896 and 5 June 1897. Men who had not previously registered and were not already in the military also registered. In addition, a supplemental registration on 24 August 1918 was for men who turned twenty-one years of age since 5 June 1918.
